Summer’s Comin Re-Rallies In Stretch To Win Saturday Night’s Feature On Monmouth-At-Meadowlands Card
October 12, 2024
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Summer’s Comin took command come out of the final turn, briefly gave up the lead to two horses in mid-stretch, and then re-rallied for a two-length victory in Saturday night’s featured $57,500 allowance optional claimer on the Monmouth-at-Meadowlands card.
Owned and trained by Mike Dini, and ridden by apprentice Francisco Martinez, Summer’s Comin posted her fourth win from 16 career starts. The 3-year-old daughter of Summer Front paid $14.40 to win.
The winning time for the mile over a turf course listed as firm was 1:35.78.
Longshot Sea Maiden took the field of 11 New Jersey-bred fillies and mares, 3 and up, through an opening quarter in :23.34 and reached the half in front in :47.02 before Summer’s Comin swept by to take command entering the final turn.
Summer’s Comin looked to have strong momentum, but was passed briefly in the stretch by Bramble Bay and Bingo’s Espresso before coming on again.
Bramble Bay held second, a neck better than Exclusive Champion.
The boutique Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet concludes on Friday, Oct. 18, with a six-race, all-turf card. First race post time is 7 p.m.
