She’s Stunning Splashes Home in Sunday Feature; Navarro Ties Record For Wins In Single Meet
September 03, 2017
Oceanport, NJ – She’s Stunning sat off the early speed duel of Miss Lamborghini and Sweet Yare N Dira before swinging to the outside at the top of the stretch and scored a length and three-quarter victory in Sunday’s $40,000 allowance optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park.
Trained by Bruce Brown, She’s Stunning covered the five furlongs over the sloppy main track in :57.88 and paid $7.40, $4.20 and $2.80 as the 5/2 favorite in the field of five fillies and mares. Miss Lamborghini completed the $31 exacta and paid $4.40 and $3. It was another three lengths back to Double Dose, who paid $3.20 for the show mutuel.
“The plan was to let the speed go and sit right off of it,” said winning rider Wilmer Garcia. “She had the speed, but I got in behind the leaders and she had no problem with the kickback at all. When we got to the outside, she ran on really well.”
The 3-year-old filly by Adios Charlie out of the Dixie Union mare Comacina improved her record to 3-3-0 in her 10 career starts, good for earnings of over $100,000.
Earlier in the day, Monmouth Park’s leading trainer, Jorge Navarro, tied his own record for most wins in a season with 59 after Great Rhythm pulled away for a 13-length victory as the 1/2 favorite in the fourth race.
Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Labor Day September 4, headlined with two Arabian races including a Grade 1 event. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. with first post at 12:50 p.m.
