Easy Money Goes for $100,000 Purse in Monday’s Sorority Stakes; Special Labor Day Card highlighted By BBQ & Craft Beer Festival

Oceanport, N.J. – Two W Stable’s Easy Money will be looking for $60,000 in cold hard cash, representing the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse in Monday’s Sorority Stakes when 2-year-old fillies sprint six furlongs over the main track.Monday also marks a special holiday card at Monmouth Park with nine live races complimented by the BBQ and Craft Beer Festival.
With Nik Juarez set to do the piloting, Easy Money will break from post three as she makes her third trip to the post.
“She’s doing very well,” said trainer Anthony Margotta Jr., who’s winning at better than 20% this meet.“She was a private purchase from John Shaw earlier this year.We sent her to Crupi’s New Castle and then brought her up here.”
So far that formula has led to a debut win on June 11 at Parx and a stakes placing at Delaware last out on Aug. 3.The daughter of Into Mischief from the Roman Ruler mare Roman Bluff sports a pair of works since her last start, the most recent on Aug. 29 going four furlongs over the fast Monmouth track in :49 4/5.
“This filly just keeps getting better,” Margotta said.“She’s moving forward everyday and should put in another solid performance on Monday.”
Favoritism in Monday’s 62nd renewal of the Sorority belongs to Made Me Shiver, who ships in from Saratoga for trainer Steven Asmussen.Installed at 8-5 on Brad Thomas’ morning line, Made Me Shiver exits a fourth place finish in the Schuylerville last out.She and jockey Antonio Gallardo will break from post four in the field of eight.
The BBQ and Craft Beer Festival gets underway right when the gates open on Monday at 11:30 a.m. and runs through 5:30 p.m.
For $10 fans 21 and over can enjoy ten 2 ounce samples of their favorites in a commemorative mini-Pilsner glass.
In addition, the best in the BBQ biz will be on-hand featuring their culinary treats, including Chop Shop BBQ, Local Smoke BBQ, One Big Party BBQ and Surf BBQ, who will be joined by crowd favorites Enzo’s Pizza, Dark Side of the Moo, El Lechon de Negron and Jack’s Goal Line Stand, to name but a few.
Following the Labor Day card, live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturdays and Sundays throughout September, with closing day slated for Sunday, Sept. 25 after which Thoroughbreds head north for 14 all-turf days at the Meadowlands beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
