Disco Chick Finds Her Groove in Sunday’s Regret Stakes
July 16, 2017
Freedom Racing LLC’s Disco Chick headed the speedy Bustin Out near the quarter pole before putting away that rival and drawing clear to a 2 ¼ length score in the $60,000 Regret Stakes before a Sunday crowd of 11,427 at Monmouth Park.
Trained by Miguel Penaloza, Disco Chick stepped the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:09.69 and returned $14.80, $7.20 and $3. Court Dancer rallied to complete the $45.80 exacta and paid $3.40 and $2.20. It was another length and a quarter back to Bustin Out, who paid $2.20 to show in the field of five mares.
“I knew the outside horse (Bustin Out) had a lot of speed so I just wanted to break well and get my horse settled in a good position,” said winning jockey Hector Caballero. “We were able to be on the outside and she put away the speed horse and had plenty left in the stretch.”
A 6-year-old daughter of Jump Start from the Disco Rico mare Disco Flirt, Disco Chick now sports a record of 10-14-6 from 41 starts, good for earnings of $729,250.
Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Friday, July 21 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m. As always the racetrack is open seven days a week for simulcasting from across the country and around the globe.
