CLASS AND CASH ALL THE WAY IN FRIDAY FEATURE
August 11, 2017
Oceanport, N.J. – Edward Short’s Class and Cash was sent for the early lead and continued in that position all the way, taking home the $42,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon by 2 ½ lengths.
Trained by Jane Cibelli, Class and Cash went the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:41.13 and paid $3.60, $2.60 and $2.10 as the odds-on favorite in the field of eight colts and geldings. Bern’ James Bern completed the $14.60 exacta and paid $4.60 and $3.40. It was a head back to Weekend Express, who paid $2.60 to show.
“He likes to be nice and relaxed on the lead,” said winning jockey Antonio Gallardo. “He was very calm on the backstretch. Once he felt the other horses coming on, he pinned his ears back and took off.”
A 5-year-old gelded son of Exchange Rate from the A.P. Indy mare She’s Indy Money, Class and Cash has won his last two and is now 11-5-1 from 23 lifetime outings.
Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, Aug. 12 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
