2016 Racing Season Comes to a Close Sunday; $78,069 Carryover in Jersey Shore Six
September 23, 2016
Monmouth Park’s final two live cards of the 2016 racing season will be complemented by a large carryover in the Jersey Shore Six as the track prepares to drop the curtain on its 57-day stand this Sunday.
A carryover of $78,069 will await racing fans this Saturday, as the track plays host to a 10-race program, highlighted by an allowance/optional claiming event with a purse of $51,200, which goes as the ninth on the card for New Jersey breds.
If a single ticket fails to solve the Jersey Shore Six on Saturday, a mandatory payout of the pool will be in effect for Sunday. That day’s program also features an eight-horse New Jersey-bred allowance/optional claiming event, which runs as the ninth.
The Jersey Shore Six, which as a 20-cent base wager, is offered daily on the final six races. To win the Jersey Shore Six jackpot one single ticket must have selected the winners of each of the races in the sequence.
Gates open Saturday and Sunday at 11:30 a.m., with first post set for 12:50 p.m.
Following Sunday’s card, live Thoroughbred racing shifts north to the Meadowlands for a 14-day all-turf meet. The Meadowlands will feature a 15% across the board takeout on all wagers, the lowest in the nation.
Opening night for the Meadowlands meet is Wednesday, Sept. 28, with live cards set for Wednesday through Saturday for the first two weeks. A Thursday through Saturday schedule is on tap for Oct. 13, 14 and 15 followed by day cards on Oct. 17, 18 and 19. Nighttime posts are set for 7 p.m., with the final three days going at 1:10 p.m.
