Oceanport, NJ – Two-time Arabian Horse of the Year Paddys Day did not disappoint with an impressive 5 ½ length victory in the Grade 1, $50,000 Shk Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nayhan Cup at Monmouth Park, finishing off a sweep of all three legs of the Triple Jewel Series.       

            Trained by Scott Powell, Paddys Day covered the mile over the fast main track in 1:47.24 and paid $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10 as the 3-10 favorite in the field of seven. Quick and Rich completed $22 exacta and paid $7.20 and $2.80. It was another 10 ¼ lengths back to Thess Is Awesome, who paid $2.40 to show.

            “The race set up perfectly for us,” said winning rider Keiber Coa. “They were going slower than I thought they were going to go. He’s a kind of horse where you have to get after him. You got to get into him to wake him up and tell him it’s time to go. He’s a really classy horse.”

            The 6-year-old son of Burning Sand out of the Virgule Al Maury mare AK Loretta has now won 22 of his 33 career starts, extending his all-time earnings record for an American Arabian Horse to $472,786.

            Later on in the card, no one picked all winners in the Late Pick 5 on Monday, creating a carryover of $14,365 into Saturday’s early Pick 5. The sequence started out with Smart Russian ($7.60) in race 6 followed by Heyy’all Watchthis ($13.80), Thirsty Donnerstag ($171.80), In Mid Heir ($9.80) and Louie Lunchbox ($4.60). Four out of five winners paid $127.60.

            Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, Sept. 9 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.  As always, the racetrack is open seven days a week for simulcasting from across the country and around the globe.
