For 20 of the 172 pre-entered horses in this year’s Breeders’ Cup, the road to racing’s richest day runs right through New Jersey, including five runners entered in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, North America’s richest Thoroughbred race.

Leading the charge of Monmouth Park performers are the past two winners of the William Hill Haskell, Verrazano (2013) and Paynter (2012), as well as two previous winners of the United Nations Stakes, Big Blue Kitten (2013) and Teaks North (2011).

In addition, five of the pre-entered horses in the Dirt Mile have found their way to California via Monmouth Park, including local favorite Pants on Fire, who won the 2011 Pegasus and was fifth in that year’s Haskell Invitational.  The Kelly Breen-trainee, won the 2012 Skip Away Stakes at Monmouth and this year’s scored in the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup.

This year’s Breeders’ Cup is at Santa Anita and will once again span two days, Nov. 1st and 2nd.  Monmouth Park will offer full simulcast coverage of all action with a special Breeders’ Cup party on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the Turf Club.  Tickets are $40 and can be purchased by contacting Brian Skirka at
