Peggy Joyce Up in Final Strides to Take Friday Feature at the Big M

With a late surge in the shadow of the wire Peggy Joyce passed pacesetter Quality Lass to post a head victory in the $34,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at the Meadowlands on Friday afternoon. 

            Trained by Eddie Broome and ridden by Paco Lopez, Peggy Joyce stepped the five furlongs over firm turf in :57 flat and paid $5.60, $3.20 and $3.20 as the favorite in the field of eight fillies and mares.  Quality Lass completed the $41.20 exacta and returned $6.60 and $4.80.  It was nearly two lengths back to Allwewantforxmas, who paid $6.40 to show. 

            A daughter of After Market out of the Carson City mare Fantastic City, Peggy Joyce moved her lifetime record to 4-3-4 from 21 starts.  The 4-year-old races in the colors of Joseph H. Moss & Jack Smith III Thoroughbreds. 

            The all-turf Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet continues on Saturday, Oct. 19 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 2:15 p.m.
