Will to Shine and jockey Pedro Cotto Jr. took the lead from their outside post soon after the start and never looked back, winning the $40,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday by three lengths.

Trained by Jorge Navarro, Will to Shine covered the flat mile over firm turf in 1:34 and returned $6.80, $4 and $3 as the favorite in the field of eight fillies and mares.  Raro, who chased the winner the whole way, completed the $21 exacta and paid $4.20 and $3.20.   It was another length and a half back to Malibu Red, who paid $3.80 to show.

A 4-year-old daughter of Sun King from the Woodman mare Willow Woodman, Will to Shine has won four of her 10 starts in 2013.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, September 14 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
