Sunday, May 12, 2013

Trilogy Stables and Laurie Plesa’s Itsmyluckyday worked a half mile over the Monmouth Park strip in :47 1/5 between the 3rd and 4th races on Sunday as he prepares for his next start in the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on May 18.

“Perfect.  He did just what I wanted,” said trainer Eddie Plesa Jr.  “I caught him galloping out in :59 and change.  I couldn’t have asked for it to work out any better.”

Coming off a disappointing 15th place finish in the Kentucky Derby last week over the Churchill Downs slop, Itsmyluckyday clicked off a quarter in :23 4/5 before finishing the half mile under a very still Elvis Trujillo.  The 3-year-old colt by Lawyer Ron is expected to ship to Baltimore on Tuesday for racing’s second leg of the Triple Crown.

Itsmyluckyday kicked off his racing career at Monmouth, breaking his maiden at second asking here on June 23, 2012.  Since then, he captured four stakes, including the Holy Bull (G3) at Gulfstream on Jan. 26 over champion Shanghai Bobby.  Prior to the Kentucky Derby, Itsmyluckyday was runner-up to Orb in the Florida Derby.

Bred in Kentucky by Liberation Farm & Brandywine Farm, Itsmyluckyday is out of the stakes placed mare Viva La Slew by Doneraile Court.  He arrived at Monmouth Park from Churchill Downs on Tuesday, May 7.
