Monmouth Park has named John “J.D.” Daniels as starter, replacing the retiring Glenn Cowgill, who had been Monmouth’s starter since 2001.

“Glenn has been a great asset to Monmouth Park and we all wish him well in his retirement,” said Michael Dempsey, Monmouth Park’s racing secretary.  “I am confident that J.D. will prove equally successful in this new role.”

A native of Delaware, Daniels has been the assistant starter under Cowgill for the past 12 years and has been affiliated with Monmouth Park since 1987.  He is a resident of Farmingdale, N.J.

Monmouth Park’s 2013 racing season kicks off on Saturday, May 11 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 6.
