Oceanport, N.J. – Harris Racing LLC’s Sandy Key Gal broke on top and led at every pole as she held off the late challenge of Carole’s Love to capture the $42,000 allowance feature by a neck at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon.

Ridden by Angel Serpa, Sandy’s Key Gal covered the five furlongs over firm turf in :55 1/5 and returned $14.60, $7.20 and $5.20. Carole’s Love completed the $177.80 exacta and paid $10.40 and $6.40.  It was another three lengths back to 9-5 favorite Five Star Momma, who paid $2.60 to show.

“Eddie (Plesa, Jr. the trainer) had her ready and I know my filly,” said winning jockey Angel Serpa “I just sent her and took the lead. The last time she raced (in the $65,000 Little Silver Stakes at one mile on the turf here), it was too long for her. She’s better going short and she showed she liked the distance today.”

Friday’s score was the third in 12 starts for Sandy Key Gal, a 3-year-old filly by Put It Back from the Stormy Atlantic mare Atlantic Frost.

Live racing continues at Monmouth on Saturday, June 16 and on Father’s Day on Sunday, June 17 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:45 p.m.
