OCEANPORT, N.J. – Mel Paikoff’s Landing My Way moved to the lead near the 1/8th pole before holding off a resilient My Sunshine Gal to win the $46,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday afternoon by a neck.
Trained by Eddie Plesa Jr. and ridden by Paco Lopez, Landing My Way paid $9.40, $2.80 and $2.20. My Sunshine Gal, the 3-5 favorite in the field of five fillies, completed the $20.40 exacta and returned $2.20 and $2.10. Palooza was another 5 ½ lengths back in third, good for a $3 show mutuel.
Sunday’s victory was the first this year and fifth lifetime for Landing My Way, a 4-year-old by Southern Image from the Well Decorated mare Miz Emmalou.
