Oceanport, N.J. – Vizzoni and Thompson’s Charmingmegan captured the lead turning for home and opened up to a comfortable four-length victory in the $46,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Monday.
Trained by Glenn Thompson and ridden by Paco Lopez, Charmingmegan covered the mile and 70 yards over a fast main track in 1:43 flat and returned $6, $4.20 and $2.80 as the second choice in the field of seven New Jersey-bred fillies and mares. My Lil’ Red Rodeo, who set most of the pace, held for second, paying $12.60 and $8.20 and completing the $93.60 exacta. It was another 3 ¾ lengths back to First Acquittal, who paid $4 to show.
Monday’s victory was the first this year and fourth lifetime for Charmingmegan, a 4-year-old by Dance With Ravens from the Citidancer mare Citiciti Bang Bang.
Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Friday, October 14 – gates open at 11:30 a.m. with first post set for 12:50 p.m. All patrons will receive free Grandstand or Clubhouse admission to the park this Friday.
