N.J. – Due to the impending
arrival of Hurricane Irene, Monmouth Park Racetrack has canceled its live race
card and simulcasting for Sunday, August 28.
Favorites at Woodbridge OTB will also be closed on Sunday. Additionally, Monmouth
Park will cease simulcast operations
on Saturday, Aug. 27, following the last race from Saratoga, estimated at 6:30 p.m.
The racetrack is also making plans for the safety of
horses and backstretch personnel that call Monmouth Park
“There is available space in the detention barn should
horses need to be moved due to flooding,” said Bob Kulina, vice president and
general manager of Monmouth
Park. “In addition, the first floor of the
grandstand will serve as shelter for backstretch personnel, should it prove
is entirely precautionary, but we’d rather be prepared and err on the side of
caution than put any horse or individual unnecessarily at risk.”
Hurricane Bertha, in 1996, was the last time Monmouth Park canceled live racing due to an

card will be made up at some date later in the racing season.
