Race Summary

After winning the Grade I Kentucky Oaks by more than 20 lengths, defeating the boys in the Grade I Preakness Stakes, and setting a new track record in the Grade I Mother Goose, Rachel Alexandra entered the 2009 Haskell Invitational as an odds-on favorite. Her fans weren’t disappointed as the 3-year-old filly defeated Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird by six lengths in a final time just one-fifth of a second off the stakes record. Following her Haskell score, Rachel Alexandra became the first filly to beat older rivals in the Grade I Woodward at Saratoga. Rachel Alexandra finished 2009 undefeated in eight starts en route to Horse of the Year honors.
