Race Summary

Hall of Famer Richard Mandella came to town with Dixie Union and the Haskell was the order of the day as the colt ridden by Alex Solis ran down his rivals to win by nearly a length. A son of Dixieland Band, Dixie Union returned $11.40 and topped a $41.60 exacta over favorite Captain Steve, who would later go on to win the $6 million Dubai World Cup. Milwaukee Brew, who would later go on to capture the “Big Cap” was third. A then record crowd of 41,630 were on hand for the race which holds the record for the highest total handle ever in the state of New Jersey on one race card, $11,407,470.
