Trainer Jane Cibelli will send two into Sunday’s $60,000
Colleen Stakes for 2-year-old fillies. Both Sensational Value and Sea Bubble
will make their third career starts as they sprint five furlongs over
Monmouth’s turf course.
of Zensational out of Expect Becky, Sensational Value is coming off of a win in
her last race, besting the field by three lengths after sprinting five furlongs
on July 11. She will try turf for the first time in the Colleen on Sunday.
for the turf,” Cibelli said. “She was very green in her first race so we tried
blinkers on her and she really improved a lot.”
Value’s stable mate Sea Bubble will also make her debut on grass in the Colleen
Stakes. A 2-year-old daughter of U S Ranger out of Lovely Martha, Sea Bubble will
break from the fence as she looks to bounce back from her last race, when she
was beaten eight lengths by fellow Colleen entrant Pray a Novena in a maiden
special weight event July 26 at Monmouth.
“You’re never too happy when you
draw the rail,” said Cibelli, “but it’s a five furlong race rather than five
and a half so the distance should suit her. She usually breaks well so she
should be up with the leaders.”
Cibelli believes that this race is
important for each of her fillies’ careers, saying that how they do in the
Colleen will dictate where they run in the future.
“We’re excited to try these two on
the turf,” Cibelli said. “I think you go into this race asking ‘Do they like
the turf? Is that their future?’ and you see how they run and go from there.”
Cibelli’s duo will have to beat a
tough pair sent out by Eddie Plesa Jr. in Pray a Novena and Flay Mignon, both
of which posted very impressive performances in their debuts. The Colleen
Stakes will go as race 11 on Monmouth’s 12-race Sunday card.
