Monmouth Park will move into the “app
age” in on-track betting on opening day, May 11, with the inauguration of a
mobile wagering platform.
The track has installed a
facility-wide wi-fi system that will allow patrons to wager all day on their
smart phone or tablet computer.
“This is really a convenient
way to bet for our on-site customers,” said Bill Knauf, vice president business
operations for Monmouth
Park. “They can play any
of the races offered here – live or simulcast – and never leave their seat.”
The mechanics of mobile
wagering are simple. At the start of the day, the patron fills out a slip to
choose a pin number for the day. That slip, and whatever deposit the patron
chooses, is given to a mutuel clerk. The clerk will give the patron a ticket
with that day’s account number and the balance deposited.
Patrons then log on to the
wi-fi network (MP_Wifi) on their mobile device. Once online, they log onto the
wagering site (mp-bets.com). At the prompts, they key in their account number
and pin number. After they have accessed the site, they can continue to wager
with any funds on deposit for that day only.
At the end of the wagering
day, the patron can take the original ticket with the one-day account number to
a mutuel clerk and cash in.
“This just gives our fans
another way to wager on-track,” Knauf said. “So many people have become
accustomed to using their mobile devices for myriad tasks, that this can become
just another part of their usual day.”
