10th Annual New Jersey Thoroughbred Festival

The New Jersey Thoroughbred Festival will be renewed for the 10th time on Saturday, September 15 at Monmouth Park and the day will celebrate the best of the state-bred racing program. The special events include an appearance by Joey P., one of the most popular horses to race at Monmouth Park and the earner of more than $1 million before his retirement, four stakes races for New Jersey-breds only, and the induction of the inaugural class into the New Jersey-bred Hall of Fame. There will even be free drawings for $500 wagering vouchers throughout the day. Gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:45 p.m.

 

The events include:

 

  • An appearance by Joey P., who retired after earning over $1 million and will be paraded on the racetrack and honored in a winner’s circle celebration before the fifth race.

 

  • The Charles Hesse III Handicap for three-year-olds and up at 1 1/16 mile.

 

  • The New Jersey Breeders’ Handicap for three-year-olds and up at six furlongs

 

  • The Jersey Girl Handicap for fillies and mares for three-years-old and up and 1 1/6 mile.

 

  • The Eleven North Handicap for fillies and mares three-and-up at six furlongs.

 

  • The induction of the inaugural class of the New Jersey-bred Hall of Fame. Cavalcade, Henry of Navarre, Open Mind and Regret will be honored in a winner’s circle ribbon cutting ceremony following the first race.

 

  • 10 live races restricted to New-Jersey breds.

 

  • Free $500 bets will be given away during the live racing day. Two lucky winners will receive a $500 wagering voucher before each race with 20 total winners.

 

  • Live music performed by the Kootz band.
