Twenty-four-and-a-half-lengths. That was the margin of victory for Tale of Peace on Sunday, July 15 and it is believed to be a modern day record at Monmouth Park.

“I’m thrilled with her race,” said owner/breeder/trainer Amy Tarrant. “I knew that she was better than a maiden twenty-five claimer. Although I wanted her to get that win, I was afraid someone would claim her and I’m very pleased that she’s still mine.”

Tarrant bred the 3-year-old daughter of 2003 Haskell Invitational winner Peace Rules and the Tale of the Cat mare Aerocat at her Hardacre Farm in Ocala, Fla.

“She’s bred to go long and what she did that day was thrilling,” said Tarrant. “Plus, she’s a homebred and it was her first win, so this is special. It’s always nice to be a record-breaker.”

Lighting up the toteboard isn’t anything new for Tarrant. She said that a few years ago her Cognac Kid went off at 104-1 and came home a winner.

Tale of Peace, now 1-0-1 in four starts, may start next in an allowance race or starter allowance so that Tarrant doesn’t have to risk losing her through the claim box.
