So far, so good. Now the undefeated Moment in Dixie gets her chance to show just how talented she might be.

            The 3-year-old daughter of Dixieland Band out of the Kris S mare Ellie’s Moment is stepping up into her first stakes race after breaking her maiden by 4 ½ lengths at first asking and then coming right back to win a $77,000 allowance race for non-winners of one other than in her last start.

            On Sunday, she’ll meet six fillies her age who are all more seasoned than she in the $75,000 Serena’s Song Stakes. She also has to navigate two turns for the first time in the 1 mile 70 yard test over the Monmouth racing strip.

            “She’s quite a nice filly and she’s come along beautifully and shown us that she has a lot of promise,” said trainer James Toner, who will run her for the first time at a track other than Belmont Park. “We’ve been taking it one step at a time with her. Having to ship and run at a new track, going longer and taking a step up in class is just another step in the process. That’s what it’s all about.”

            Toner said that Moment in Dixie ran “a little green” in her two races to date, both under Corey Nakatani, but her Beyer Speed Figures were big. She’s brings numbers of 85 and 88 into the Serena’s Song, indicating that she’s the fastest filly in the field.

Moreover, she tuned up with a bullet work of 1:00 for five furlongs at Belmont last week.

            She’ll break from post position six under leading rider Elvis Trujillo and just to her outside will be a filly with a little more stakes experience.

            Ageless, trained by Leigh Delacour for Lael Stables, also won her first two efforts and then was third in the $100,000 Miss Preakness Stakes at Pimlico. She followed that up with a second place finish in the $75,000 Go For Wand Stakes at Delaware Park, which was run at the exact distance of the Serena’s Song.

            “Her last time out was her first time going two turns, but she handled it well. Having that experience is an advantage,” said Delacour.

            Minesave, Ainsley, Salad Girl, Morrow Cove, and Street Crew complete the field. The Serena’s Song is a prep race for the Grade 3 $10,000 Monmouth Oaks scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11.
