The last time he raced at this distance and against this level of competition over this strip, Wildcat Creek finished a game second as the short-priced favorite when caught in a speed duel that ruined his chances on June 3. Trainer Eddie Plesa, Jr. expects a different outcome when the colt comes back in Sunday’s $42,000 allowance race for non-winners of one other than going six furlongs on the main track.

“I think he ended up in a bad predicament in his last race. He still just got caught in the last few jumps,” he said. “I don’t think he’ll get the same pace scenario as last time. At least I hope he doesn’t.”

The 3-year-old son of Wildcat Heir and the Point Given mare Prettyatthetable was bred by Amy Tarrant on her Hardacre Farm in Florida and was purchased at the Ocala Breeders Sales Company yearling auction by BNB Racing Inc. and Rick Shanley. The colt finished second in two stakes races at Tampa Bay Downs in December and January and then was fourth in the Grade 2 Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream Park on February 11 before arriving here for the meet.

In two starts at Monmouth, he has been third and second, and in his last race he showed heart.

“He tries hard every time,” said Plesa, Jr., who runs a 35-horse division in South Florida in addition to the 40 in his barn here. “I like Monmouth Park and I like to run here.”

Voodoo Charm is also in the field of nine entered for Sunday’s feature and is among the seven horses trainer Gregg Sacco will saddle on the 12-race card. The 4-year-old New Jersey-bred has raced nowhere other than Monmouth in his eight starts and is taking on open company on Sunday because he has gone through his state-bred conditions.

He last raced in the same field with Wildcat Creek on June 3 and finished fourth after staging a mild rally.
