Hangman came off the also-eligible list and did so running, coasting to an easy 3¼ length victory in Sunday’s $41,000 featured allowance optional claimer at Monmouth Park.

Trained by Linda Rice and ridden by Andre Worrie, the New York shipper dueled for the early lead with Nautical Nature but quickly took command, showing uncharacteristic speed in the 5½ furlong turf dash and then the requisite stamina in the stretch.

“Linda told me before the race that it looked like there was plenty of speed so I should try to sit off of it a little bit and then try to mow them down late,” said Worrie. “That didn’t happen. My horse broke good and none of the horses we thought were speed horses went for the lead. So I went for it and he just kept going.”

The 3-year-old son of Scat Daddy-Hangingbyamoment, owned by D J Stable LLC, covered the distance over a firm turf course in 1:02.26.

Longshot Excluded rallied for second, with Sum Overture checking in third, another 2¼ lengths back.

Hangman, who left from the far outside post in the field of 10, paid $9.80 to win. The exacta with Excluded returned $198.60 for $2.
