Triple Arch and Rebecca’s Surprise dueled through the lane with the former besting the latter by a nose to take the $46,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon.

Trained by Marcus Vitali, Triple Arch came with a three-wide run around the far turn as Rebecca’s Surprise moved almost in tandem along the inside.  Triple Arch held a slight advantage through most of the stretch before Rebecca’s Surprise battled to a narrow advantage only to the lose a head-bob on the wire.

“She took me into a good position and I just waited for my time to move,” said winning jockey Orlando Bocachia.  “Everything went perfectly for me and she was able to get her nose down first.”

Owned by Crossed Sabres Farm, Triple Arch returned $6, $3 and $2.40 as the second-choice in the field of six fillies and mares.  Rebecca’s Surprise completed the $16.40 exacta and paid $3 and $2.40.  It was another 2 ¾ lengths back to pacesetter Crazy About Me, who paid $3.20 to show.

Friday’s win was the first this year and fourth lifetime for Triple Arch, a 4-year-old daughter of Arch from the Chester House mare Ambling.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, July 19 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
