Oceanport, N.J. – The $1 million, Grade 1 William Hill Haskell Invitational is just 18 days away and the field for this year’s 47th renewal of New Jersey’s top Thoroughbred race continues to take shape.

Among those considering a start in the mile and an eighth Haskell is the Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Untapable, who has taken her last four by open lengths and would be making her first start against the boys.  Owned by Ron Winchell and trained by Steven Asmussen, who sent out the filly Rachel Alexandra to win the 2009 Haskell, Untapable would enter Monmouth Park’s top race off a dominating 9 ¼ length win in the Grade 1 Mother Goose on June 28.

Trainer Bob Baffert is looking to add to his already record six Haskell wins, this year with the colt Bayern.  A winner of three of six starts, Bayern was last seen drawing away from his rivals in the Woody Stephens (G2) at Belmont on June 7, winning by an impressive 7 ½ lengths.

Also setting their sights on this year’s Haskell is Wildcat Red, winner of the Fountain of Youth (G2) and runner-up in this year’s Florida Derby (G1).  In his most recent start, the Jose Garoffalo-trainee was a better than 10-length winner of the Quality Road Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Social Inclusion, third in the Wood Memorial (G1), Preakness Stakes (G1) and Woody Stephens is also considering the Haskell, as is Medal Count, most recently third in the Belmont Stakes and winner of this year’s Transylvania Stakes (G3) at Keeneland.

Add to that, Albano, winner of the Pegasus (G3) here on June 15 and Irish You Well and Just Call Kenny, winner and runner-up, respectively, of last Saturday’s Long Branch Stakes over the Monmouth dirt.

The William Hill Haskell will be televised live on NBC and is part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Series, with the victor getting an automatic berth to the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 1.
