Oceanport, N.J. – Cornerstone Thoroughbreds’ Medea moved three-wide around the far turn before drawing clear late in the lane to post a length victory in the Grade 3, $100,000 Eatontown Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Trained by Francis Abbott III, Medea went the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:41 4/5 and returned $13.60, $5.80 and $3.80.  Triple Arch rallied from between rivals to complete the $71.20 exacta and pay $7.60 and $4.80.  It was another nose back to Lonesome Town, who paid $3.40 to show.  Nashly’s Vow, the 9-5 favorite and pacesetter, tired in the lane to finish sixth in the field of seven fillies and mares.

“She broke well and we got set up perfectly,” said winning jockey Forest Boyce.  “I was confident in her the whole time. I had plenty of horse.  She’s a pretty gritty filly.”

Medea, a 5-year-old homebred mare by Danehill Dancer from the Giant’s Causeway mare Scoop of Gold, boasts a record of 3-5-3 from 11 lifetime starts, good for earnings of $195,345.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Sunday, June 22 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
