First Acquital Flies Through the Lane to Take Sunday Feature

Richard Malouf and Eddie Broome’s First Acquital rallied down the center of the track to just nip Royal Suspicion and Rubindy by a head to take the $42,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

            Ridden by Gabriel Saez, First Acquital covered the mile and 70 yards over a fast main track in 1:43 3/5 and paid $24.20, $7.40 and $3.  Royal Suspicion completed the $95.20 exacta and paid $4.80 and $3.20.  It was another half-length back to Rubindy, the post-time favorite, who paid $2.10 to show.

            “The pace was quick which really helped out,” said Broome, who also conditions First Acquital.  “She’s been training well.  She’s been a happy girl since coming back to New Jersey and she showed up this afternoon and showed it.”

            Bred by the owners in the state of New Jersey, First Acquital has won 10 of her 51 lifetime starts.  The 8-year-old mare by Volponi from the Louis Quatorze mare Trial Dancer, First Acquital came into Sunday’s feature off six weeks rest.

            Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, May 24 for a three-day holiday weekend, which includes the Jersey Shore Food Truck Festival.  Gates open 11:30 a.m. with first post set for 12:50 p.m.
