Just For Fun Stable LLC’s Street Gem took the lead around
the far turn and held off the late charge of Jean’s Surprise to capture the
$60,000 Desert Vixen Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday by just over a length.
Kathleen O’Connell, Street Gem covered the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf
in 1:42 flat and paid $7.20, $4 and $2.60. Jean’s Surprise completed the $54.20
exacta and returned $6.80 and $3.40. It
was another three lengths back to Coarsegold, who paid $2.40 to show as the
13-10 favorite in the field of six 3-year-old fillies.
