Oceanport, N.J. – M. Lauffer and W.D. Cubbedge’s Afleeting Lady took command around the far turn before opening up in the lane and posting a 4 ½-length victory in the $75,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park on Monday.

Trained by Dale Romans, Afleeting Lady covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:43 4/5 returning $6, $3.80 and $2.60.  Daddy’s Honor completed the $35.80 exacta and paid $8 and $4.  It was another half-length back to Successful Song, the favorite in the field of seven 3-year-old fillies, who paid $2.40 to show.

“Dale (trainer Romans) told me that she was a slow breaker and to make sure she ran away from there,” said winning jockey Chris DeCarlo.  “We were able to get out of the gate well and then when we hit the first turn she was a little rank and I worried it would take away some of her run.  She doesn’t have a big turn of foot, but she does have a big, long stride.”

Afleeting Lady is a 5-year-old by Afleet Alex from the Unbridled mare Oatsee, making her a half-sister to 2011 Preakness winner and Haskell runner-up Shackleford.  Afleeting Lady now sports a record of 5-4-2 from 18 career starts, good for earning of $284,822.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, Sept. 8 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:45 p.m.  As always the racetrack is open seven days a week for simulcasting from across the country and around the globe.
