Oceanport, N.J. – More than 25,000 flowed into Monmouth Park on Saturday and Sunday as the racetrack played host to its annual Shore Chef Crab Cake Cook-Off.

Following two days of food tasting, the judges named Bahr’s Restaurant in the Atlantic Highlands as the Best Crab Cake.  Ike’s, located in Ocean City, N.J., took home the People’s Choice Award for their crab cake as other awards went to Bahr’s for Best Presentation, while Ike’s (Fried Grouper) and Lizzmonade won for Best of the Rest.

“It was a great weekend of racing and food tasting,” said Bill Knauf, assistant general manager at Monmouth Park.  “This is an event that people circle on the calendar early in the season and one that has grown and will continue to grow over the years.”

Sunday’s attendance of 13,568, coupled with 11,958 on Saturday brought the weekend total to 25,526.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Thursday, August 23 for the third of four Twilight Thursday cards.  Gates open at 2:30 p.m., with first post set for 4:00 p.m.  The 2012 racing season runs through Sunday, Oct. 7.
