Oceanport, N.J. – Richard Ravin’s Rip Roarin Ritchie took command out of the gate and held off the late charges of I’m Boundtoscore and Itsmyluckyday to take the $60,000 Tyro Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday by a half-length.

Trained by Wesley Ward, Rip Roarin Ritchie stepped the five furlongs over firm turf in :56.46 and returned $3.60, $2.60 and $2.20 as the odds-on choice in the field of eight 2-year-olds.  I’m Boundtoscore completed the $12.20 exacta and paid $3.40 to place and $2.20 to show.  It was another neck back to Itsmyluckyday, who paid $3 to show.
“He broke really fast out of the gate,” said winning jockey Elvis Trujillo.  “The gates opened and he was three lengths in front already.  He relaxed really well, but I had to ride him a little in the stretch because he started looking around.”

A gelding by Bring the Heat from the Mighty mare Silently Mighty, Rip Roarin Ritchie is now two for three, good for earnings of $70,645.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Thursday – first post for the special twilight card is 4 p.m.  As always the racetrack is open seven days a week for simulcasting from across the country and around the globe.
