OCEANPORT, N.J. – Hop Skip and Away came with a four wide rally before posting a head victory in the $46,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday.
Trained by Joe Pierce Jr. and ridden by Pedro Cotto Jr., Hop Skip and Away covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:10 4/5. The winner returned $3.60, $2.80 and $2.10 as the odds-on choice in the field of five runners. Galaxy Kat completed the $22.40 exacta and paid $5.80 and $2.80. It was another length and a quarter back to Raging Six, who paid $2.20 to show.
Friday’s win was the seventh in 43 starts for Hop Skip and Away, a 6-year-old gelding by Gold Fever from the Gulch mare Wingspread.
