Oceanport, N.J. – Finish
Line Farms’ Back Pocket Money took command out of the gate and held off a
challenge from Jersey Storm Cat at the quarter pole before drawing off to a three-length
win in the $45,000 starter allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Ridden by Felix Ortiz, Back Pocket Money returned $10.20,
$4.80 and $3.40. Jersey Storm Cat
completed the $49.40 exacta and paid $4.60 and $3. It was another 4 ½ lengths back to Taylors
Tough, who paid $4.20 to show in the field of 10 New Jersey-bred geldings.
“I’d been working on him at the gate,” said winning
trainer Juan Serey. “I expected him to
be in front. He’s been training great
and he warmed up really well. Everything
fell into place.”
Saturday’s victory was the third this season for Back
Pocket Money, a 5-year-old gelding by Lion Hearted from the Northern Idol mare
