OCEANPORT, N.J. – Ed Glasscock and Vinery Stables’ Chipshot took command at the top of the lane before drawing off to an impressive 2 ¾ length score in the $75,000 Select Stakes as Ju Jitsu Jax captured the $65,000 My Frenchman Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Chipshot covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:08 3/5 and paid $8.40, $3.60 and $2.60.  Cal Nation completed the $27 exacta and paid $3.40 and $3.  It was another 2 ¾ lengths back to Royal Currier, who paid $4.20 to show.

“My horse broke great and I was able to sit right off the speed,” said winning jockey Corey Nakatani.  “I was right in the catbird seat and was able to keep my horse nice and relaxed the whole way.”

A colt by 2003 Haskell winner Peace Rules, Chipshot earned his first stakes victory in the Select and his third in 13 lifetime starts.  He has now earned $209,480.

In the My Frenchman, Ju Jitsu Jax took command early and held off a slew of late charges to win the 5 ½ furlong turf race in 1:02 flat by a neck.

Trained by Howard Wolfendale, Ju Jitsu Jax returned $46.80, $18.40 and $5.20 across the board.  Wicked Tune completed the $456.60 exacta and paid $15.20 to place and $5 to show.  It was another head back to 1-5 favorite Regally Ready, who paid $2.10 to show.

“I was hoping to get in front out of the gate,” said winning jockey Forest Boyce.  “He was kind of tough to hold in the post parade, but once I got in the gate, I knew I was good.  He was able to get to the top and dug in late.”

The My Frenchman win was the 11th in 31 starts for Ju Jitsu Jax, a 5-year-old horse by Tiger Ridge from the Two Punch mare Carol’s Amore.  She has now earned $502,694.
